Navahrudak District is an administrative unit within the Grodno Region. It was formed on January 15, 1940. The administrative center is the city of Navahrudak.
It is located in the east of the Grodno Region. According to archaeological research, Navahrudak arose at the end of the 10th century. During its history, the city and the region have experienced periods of political and cultural ups and downs.
In the middle of the 13th century, the center of political life moved from Polotsk to Navahrudak, and the city became one of the centers of the formation of Belarusian statehood. After the third partition of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, the city became part of the Russian Empire. Since September 1915, it was occupied by the troops of Kaiser Germany, and in December 1918 it was occupied by the Red Army. From 1919 to 1939, Navahrudak was part of Poland. The district center of Navahrudak is associated, first of all, with the name of Adam Mickiewicz - the poet spent his early childhood here. The second attraction of Navahrudak is the remains of an ancient castle, which is located on one of the highest points in Belarus - Zamkovaya Gora (342 m above sea level).
