At noon on August 25, 1968 eight people went out on the Red square to express their protest against the incursion of the soviet troops into Czechoslovakia. The book by Natalia Gorbanevskaya, one of the participants of the legendary demonstration, a poetess and interpreter, is dedicated to the history and consequences of that most famous anti-Soviet protest. Created in 1969, spread in the samizdat and translated into several languages, the present documentary chronicle is published in Russia for the first time. The book is supplemented with a new introduction and the author’s comments, which tell about the unknown details of confrontation between the civil society and totalitarian regime in the USSR.
