She was born in the town of San Pedro de Cardena in Spain in a count family. The mother died during childbirth, and the father simply abandoned the child. Therefore, the girl was raised by her grandmother, and when she died, by her aunt. Natalena knew many languages, and she began to write her works in French. The fact that she became a Ukrainian writer is the merit of her second husband, Vasyl Koroliv-Stary, who insisted that his wife write in Ukrainian.
