This absorbing book takes readers back to the past of the Bulgarian seaside city of Burgas, with its various ethnic communities: Jews, Armenians, Russians, Greeks and Turks. The author Viviana Assa explores the traditions of the local Jews and recalls her journalistic interviews with major figures, such as poet Hristo Fotev, Pope John Paul II and clairvoyant Vanga. She also shares her thoughts about her husband, poet Rumen Leonidov. Assa says: "I dedicate this book to my grandchildren. They were born and raised outside Bulgaria and I suspect they will never learn any details about my family roots. This is a drama to me, because in Jewish tradition life starts and ends with the family."
