The monograph is the first research study dedicated to the comparative analysis of the musical cultures of India and Indonesia as iconic regions of South and Southeast Asia, marking the regional specifics of their civilizations. They become the quintessence of typological qualities, that characterize the cultures of Asia macroregions as a holistic and systemic phenomenon. Analogies are drawn between single-order phenomena in Indian and Indonesian art with an emphasis on the recognition of their commonality: the sacralization of sound matter, the ensemble type of music making, the cyclic interpretation of the category of time, the meditative process, the presence of related dance and theatrical genres, the principles of functioning of the traditional system of musical education.
