The unique publication about the life and activity of a prominent and well-respected person of the XXth century - the founder and director of the Russian State Library of the Foreign Literature - Margarita Ivanovna Rudomino (1900-1990). In the 1920s she started the formation of the Library, which she considered to be the center of the culture and enlightenment for the future generations. Besides managing the fast growing library she established long term relations and contacts with foreign and international cultural organizations. The offered biographical research is based on the memoirs and correspondence of Margarita Ivanovna, on archival materials and pictures from the family archive of the Rudominos. Nowadays the Library is named after her.
