The proposed analysis of M.A. Bulgakov's novel "Fatal Eggs" is based on the principles of the so-called "universal knowledge" of Romanticism. This analysis allows readers to fully appreciate the Faustian essence of Professor Persikov's image and come closer to understanding Bulgakov's mysticism and its connection with research facts. The novel "Fatal Eggs" is considered in comparison with H.G. Wells' novel "Food of the Gods"; this comparison shows the similarity of the natural research base of the two writers, the hermetic nature of the symbolic language common to them, and the depth of the literary response of the Russian writer to his English contemporary, indicating M.A. Bulgakov's special philosophical approach to the topic of the invasion of science in the secrets of life.
