The author of the book, Yuri Alexandrovich Falik (1936-2009), is a Russian composer and conductor. The book reflects the life of a whole generation of musicians whose youth coincided with the "thaw". Its pages are full of nostalgia for the days when the Leningrad Conservatory, where Falik worked for fifty years, remained a place of service to music.
