The book tells about the entrepreneurs owing to whom Irkutsk became the most significant administrative, trading and cultural centre on the territory between the River of Yenisei and the Pacific Ocean in the XIXth century. The first attempt to analyze the main periods of formation of Irkutsk merchantry and to present interesting facts about lifes and activities of its most prominent reprepresentatives was made by the authors.
