Vladislav Glinka (1903-1983) was a historian who worked for many years in the State Hermitage, known in the scientific community as an unquestionable connoisseur of the Russian XIXth century. He survived the siege of Leningrad from the beginning till the end, working in this difficult time as a curator at the Hermitage and medical assistant in a hospital. At the same time he was responsible for the preservation of collections of the Institute of the Russian literature of the Academy of sciences of the USSR ("The Pushkin House"). The manuscript of "Memoirs of the siege" was found by Glinka’s heirs after his death. Scenes of the siege life described in the book require neither explanation nor comments. The edition is illustrated with archival photographs.
