N.Y.Mandelstam (1899 – 1980), a Russian writer and a wife of poet Osip Mandelstam, is considered to be the best author of memoirs of the XXth century. Her memories published in the West at the beginning of the 70-s were generally recognized there. At the same time, they presented a popular and widely distributed text of Russian samizdat. With passion and sorrow she depicted the image of the tragic epoch of Osip Mandelstam and his contemporaries. The third book comprises as well memories about Anna Akhmatova, and other previously unpublished notes.
