In the monograph the history of Onega region colonization during the end of the XIXth - the beginning of the XXth century is reflected. The author dwells upon the way of life, transportation, construction, garments, meals and pottery as well as the traditions and rites connected with them. The base of the book represents previously unpublished data both of pre-revolutionary and Soviet periods and the archival materials from St.Petersburg, Petrozavodsk and Medvezh'egorsk.
