The book presents previously unpublished archival material from the Electronic Reading Room of the Central Intelligence Agency of the United States. The documents were made public after the standard 65-year classification period. The study highlights the fate of the Bulgarians in Macedonia and their struggle to defend their national identity. It provides indisputable evidence of the Bulgarian spirit in Macedonia and the strong influence of the Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization (VMRO) and its leader Ivan Mihailov. The CIA managed to gain access to prisons and forced labor camps, some of which still exist nowadays. Universities and high schools also caught the vigilant eye of the U.S. intelligence community.
