The monograph is a result of the longstanding study of Gorky's works that is regarded in the historical and social context - from unfinished romantic cycle of novels to the epic "The Life of Klim Samgin (1925-1936)". The new reading of the Gorky's texts, combined with the subtle analysis and based on the new principles, made it possible to reveal the complicated and conflicting figure of the writer without embroidery and slanders. The author uncovers the tragedy of Gorky's last years and the secret of his death due to the great number of little-known archive documents.
