The book features poems by eminent Bulgarian painter Nikolai Maistorov (born 1943). Written over a period of several decades, the poems are a kind of autobiography in which the author reveals his inner self very cautiously and even shyly. While Maistorov's paintings are often epic and dramatic, his poems are subdued and almost timorous. The question "Where am I?" resonates throughout the book. The realization of the transient nature of human existence keeps the author's mind alert at all times.
