The volume "Letters 1944-1949" opens the edition of the postwar correspondence of Anna and Jaroslaw Iwaszkiewicz. It publishes 142 letters, the entire surviving correspondence of the couple from this period. The letters have been edited and extensively annotated by researchers and editors of the works and epistolary legacy of Jaroslaw Iwaszkiewicz and Anna Iwaszkiewiczowa. It documents the family, home, artistic, and literary life of one of the most outstanding Polish writers of the 20th century, who was also involved in rebuilding the postwar life of the literary community in Poland and in various socio-political activities, both domestic and international. His social activity during this period is sometimes criticized due to the political circumstances that shaped the situation in Poland and Europe at the time.
