The new extended edition of the well-known and profound biographer of Ukrainian luminaries is about the difficult life and creative path of the undoubtedly talented humorist-satirist from Pokuttya - Les' Martovych (1871-1916). His friend, peer and like-minded Vasyl Stefanyk called Lesya his childish laughter and taste of genius. Such young people of peasant origin, gaining knowledge, sought to share it with the native people: they even dropped out of school, went to the villages, set up reading rooms, campaigned in the elections for peasant candidates, wrote vivid correspondence to Lviv publications, were supporters of the radical Galician movement together with such a giant of national and political struggle as Ivan Franko and others. Humorous description of Les Martovych's works, about which the writer, publicist and supporter of the Radicals Mykhailo Pavlyk is also known, said that "we have our Gogol", preserves natural boundaries, although he is always on the verge of grotesque and caricature. I. Franko believed that “Martovych is first and foremost a beautiful observer of peasant life, and his short stories are characterized by unusual humor. He is able to convey the irony of the fate that prevails over man, his conscious and unconscious actions in a completely different light than it really is, as no one in our literature has been able to convey. His manner is completely original, light and far from any pattern. And most importantly, he was the exposer of the whole system of social and national enslavement of the Western Ukrainian hardworking people, because all of Martovych's literary work was a living response to the pressing issues of the Galician reality of the time. But the writer's works are close to us even today due to their philanthropy towards the hard-working Ukrainian people, hatred for evil and injustice.
