This book is the first publication of the unique liturgical-hymnographic collection Lenten Triodion (Markhvani) translated and edited by the greatest representative of the Holy Apostolic Church of Georgia and Georgian culture- St. George the Athonite. This collection preserves Georgian translations of numerous hymns for Great Lent by prominent figures of the Christian Church translated from Greek by George the Athonite or in his redaction. A collection of such completeness has not yet been found in the Greek Triodions known today. The same collection preservesmore than 100 hymns of the great Georgian Hymnographer of the 10th century, Ioane Minchkhi. This collection occupies a special place in the history of Georgian literature and is of great importance for the study of Byzantine hymnography and liturgy. The book presents an academically established text of Lenten Triodion based on seven most important Georgian manuscripts of the 11th-15th centuries.
