Kazimir Lyshchinsky became famous in 1689. They wrote about him in France, Italy, Germany, Poland and Lithuania. He was at the center of the most scandalous trial in the history of Belarus. The Pope almost took up his case. Who was the man who was burned at the stake? Soldier, monk, politician, judge, thinker? The owner of countless treasures? An inveterate atheist or a modest scholar? In 1666, at the age of Christ, our hero suddenly renounces a very successful spiritual career, leaves the Jesuit order, gets married, leaves Brest and settles in his family estate Lyshchytsy, which belongs to his family in the third generation. Here he founds his own school - democratic in essence and secular in content, in which he teaches the children of peasants and nobles: he teaches writing, mathematics, languages, and the basics of some sciences. At the same time, he practices law. And it must be said, the business becomes not only successful, but also profitable. By a certain time, he managed to accumulate very decent funds. But he disposed of them in the wrong way: he recklessly lent 100,000 thalers to a neighbor whom he considered his best friend. And when our hero demanded to return the debt, the so-called friend stole from him the manuscript "On the Nonexistence of God". Taking advantage of his trust, the liar drew up a denunciation to the Vilna bishop, in which he accused our hero of atheism, denial of God, and other mortal sins. In 1687, the church court sentenced him to be burned. He was not sentenced for a whole month. There was a fierce struggle between supporters and opponents of the death penalty.
March 30, 2019 marked the 330th anniversary of the execution of the Brest court judge Kazimir Lyshchinsky. Only five small fragments remain in the court documents. Among them there is such a phrase: "Man is the creator of God, and God is the creation and creation of man." It is proof that its author is the smartest person who was far ahead of his time. Was it worth it to give his life for her?
