Marie Daniel Bourree and later Baron de Corberon was a son of the president of the Paris Parliament. Having served several years in the Guard of King Louis XV he passed to a diplomatic career. The diary represents a true photograph of the intimate life of the court of Empress Catherine II in 1775-1780. Day after day, with few interruptions, the author wrote down all the facts, intrigues, gossips and rumors.
