Several decades ago, the field of castle science, called castellology, began to develop in Bohemia and Moravia. One of the pioneers of this historical discipline was doc. Ing PhDr. Miroslav Placek (born 1943), Czech castellologist, archaeologist and university teacher, originally educated as a mechanical engineer, graduated from Brno University of Technology in 1960–1965.
