A diary kept at home for 70 years is a unique testimony of exile in Igarka. The Lithuanian National Museum has published the “Igarka Diary” of exile Jonas Janusauskas – an exceptional publication testifying to exile for the Arctic Circle. The author wrote it for three years without stopping, meticulously recording the events and even the smallest details of each day he lived in exile, therefore the information recorded on almost three hundred pages reveals new details about the life of exiles in Siberia. The author of the diary, Jonas Janusauskas (1914–1996), the son of a strong farmer from Simkaiciai parish (now Jurbarkas district), was exiled with his parents, his own family and his sister’s family – a total of ten relatives. The diary was written every day for three years: from the time he was put in the train carriage on May 22, 1948, to June 30, 1951.
