The book was written by the Ukrainian author Yurii Borets', a former member of the Ukrainian Rebellion Army that struggled for freedom of the Ukrainian nation in the middle of the XXth century. The work focuses on Ukraine's history since antiquity till the present time. Certain attention is paid to Ukraine during the Great Patriotic War, the USSR in the post-war period, collapse of the Soviet Union and formation of independent Ukrainian state at the end of the previous century.
