A true political triler. This is not fiction. Multiple [former] minister Ivan Simko takes a look behind the scenes of the struggle against Meciarism. Reckless and authoritarian way of government, stealing state property, and asset-stripping privatized businesses with privileged mafia practices that resulted in the kidnapping of the president's son, Slovakia, dubbed a black hole of Europe without the possibility of joining the EU and NATO - all of this was the sad picture of our country in the 1990s when [then Prime Minister] Vladimir Meciar held all the power in the country firmly in his hands. The then opposition political parties did not have the slightest chance of defeating Meciar's HZDS party. The author, who was a direct participant in the political games of that time, describes the events that led to the formation of a strong anti-Meciar bloc named the Slovak Democratic Coalition (SDK). The book is a testimony of how it managed to reverse the fate of the country and direct it back to Europe. Slovakia has democratically defeated the power that has attempted to build a regime that is now labeled as non-liberal democracy. This makes this story even informative and inspirational for the present.
