The Russian North has long been called the treasury of folk architecture. The book tells about the ancient wooden temple structures of the Arkhangelsk Territory, which only at the turn of the 19th - 20th centuries were investigated, discovered by architectural science and shown to the Russian people due to the selfless activities of architects V.V. Suslova, P.P. Pokryshkina, F.F. Gornostaeva, L.R. Sologuba, K.K. Romanov, artists I. Ya. Bilibin, I.E. Grabar, V.A. Plotnikov and other specialists. Three guardians of northern architecture, three tireless researchers and professional restorers-practitioners should be grateful to the Arkhangelsk Territory, its folk architecture: D.V. Mileev, A.A. Karetnikov, P.D. Baranovsky. Driven by their energy, knowledge and diligence, at the beginning of the twentieth century, the first experiments in the restoration of wooden structures in Russia were carried out on the territory of the Arkhangelsk Territory, while the work was carried out at such a high scientific and professional level that at one time they became the standards of restoration work. The book will tell about the contribution of each of these specialists to the study and recreation of northern wooden architecture and the buildings they saved.
