The book represents a collection of stories about the travels of prominent Russian explorers Semyon Dezhnyov and Vitus Bering. Dezhnyov was the first who passed from the Arctic Ocean to the Pacific, proving that Asia and America are two different continents, as was assumed earlier. Bering passed the strait between the peninsula of Chukotka and Alaska, reached the shores of the North America and discovered several islands in the Aleutian chain.
