Georgy Kasyanov (b. 1961) is a Ukrainian historian, doctor of historical sciences, professor. Trained and taught at universities in Europe, USA, Canada, Australia, Japan. He is the author of about two hundred scientific papers published in Ukrainian, Russian, Belarusian, Polish, German, English, Finnish.
It is this book about how the Holodomor is presented in historiography, politics, memory, international relations, domestic politics in Ukraine. The author wonders how much a professional historian can be independent of the influence of politics and public sentiment. Does politics influence historiography or historiography on politicians? How is historical memory shaped and altered by contemporary political processes? These and other issues are addressed in the example of the formation and spread of the historical image of the 1832-1933 Holodomor in Ukraine.
