The first part of trilogy covers main stages of political biography of G. R. Derzhavin during the reign of Catherine the Great based on a wide range of archival and published sources. Narration of the first period of official career precedes information about G. R. Derzhavin's origin, childhood years and early days. The book contains detailed analysis of administrative job of G. R. Derzhavin as a public servant of Senate (1777-1783), a chief of Olonets (1785) and Tambov vicariates (1785-1788), as a secretary of Chancellery of Her Imperial Majesty on adoption of solicitations (1791-1793), a president of Collegium of Commerce and a senator of the boundary department of Senate (1794-1796).
Appendix contains the publication of unique materials for the biography of G. R. Derzhavin from the manuscript department of National Library of Russia: private papers, patents on ranks, certificates on awards.
