The author Gancho Tsenov says in the introduction: "The early history of the peoples on the Balkan Peninsula is still unclear... If the newly arriving peoples destroyed or assimilated the older ones, it is puzzling why the so-called Turkic Bulgars, who came later, did not destroy or assimilate the Slavs they found here." This is a Bulgarian translation of the book which was written in German and first published in Leipzig in 1915. It was banned in Bulgaria between 1944 and 1990. Gancho Tsenov was a Bulgarian historian who lived and worked in Berlin (in German, his name is spelled Gantscho Zenow).
