It is known that in the beginning of the 30s of the last century, an unspeakable tragedy happened in Kazakhstan. More than one-third of the local population was destroyed by mass hunger and epidemics that swept across the Kazakh steppes due to the reckless actions of short-sighted politicians who, without any preparation, began to move the Kazakh people, who had lived a nomadic life for centuries, into a sedentary state in a short period of time. Among the victims of hand-made zhut were many representatives of other nationalities, almost the cream of the Russian peasants forcibly moved to the Kazakh lands. In 1992, the Kazakh writer V. Mihailov, who first wrote about this topic, which had been closed for more than sixty years, published a book in Kazakh. The author supplemented it and published it again in Russian in 2008. The presented book has been abridged based on this latest version.
