This book is a journey through cultural history, starting from Paope, as if from the gate opening to the Kopu peninsula, and ending in Hirmuste. It is also a metaphor for life, a life story that finally leaves behind all joys and hardships to end its journey in the herb gardens of the “end of the world”. The forested and sparsely populated Hiiumaa as the edge of the world, the Kopu peninsula open to the sea and winds as the end of Hiiumaa. Riho Saard (b. 1961) is a doctor of theology and professor with roots in Hiiumaa, a church historian and cultural historian. Among his other works, he has published numerous local histories of Hiiumaa over the years, including separate booklets about the villages of the Kopu peninsula. This is a new glimpse into them.
