The author of the book states that mass documents can’t unite all the completeness of the processes that are under way in Russian society from the beginning of XVIII century but, nevertheless, there exist vital topics and issues that can be dealt with on the basis of foreign sources. Broadening of foreign materials circle should result in importance increase of this group of sources. The review represented in the book can give an idea of possibility to widen a usual circle of foreign sources.
