In his book, historian Jakub Drabik explains what fascism really is, how to define it, who can be described as a fascist, how fascism manifests itself externally, and what follows from all this. It clarifies the motivations and ideologies of fascists and explains how millions of people may have succumbed to the lure of fascism and lived, listened to, worked, sacrificed, fought and died in the service of one of the most pernicious ideologies in human history. Using the example of four European countries (Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom and Czechoslovakia), he shows how historical fascist movements and regimes worked, and in an extensive separate chapter he explains the vicissitudes and transformation of fascism after the Second World War to the present day.
