This is a reprinted version of the edition published in 1950. The texts of the book are folklore fairytales and legends written down in 1927-1928 by the philologist and researcher of the Russian language and its dialects, a Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR Vasily Chernyshev (1867-1949). The present edition contains 84 fairytale texts out of 102 ones collected by the scholar. He did not manage to finish the research and it was continued by his followers. The fairytales of the book mainly relate to A.Pushkin places.
