The issue of political executions in Czechoslovakia during the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia's rule has long attracted public attention. In the past, however, scholars have tended to use a selective approach in dealing with this topic, choosing certain cases, most often linked to the most famous political trials. The present collective monograph maps, in the form of individual biographical entries, which are conceived as case studies, all the tragic cases of those executed for political reasons that have been known so far. In this context, it does not shy away from controversial cases that lie on the borderline between political and criminal offences, or even cross it. In addition to bringing individual human fates to light, the book illuminates the overall state of research and places these executions within the broader framework of political trials.
