Gaito Gazdanov (1903-1971) is one of the brightest Russian emigrant prose writers. Though being compared with Nabokov and Prust by critics, Gazdanov at the same time was considered to have no forerunners. His realism is often called "magic". The first volume of his collected works comprises novels written within the period of 1920-1940.
