On the example of ethnically related republics – Kabardino-Balkaria and
Karachay-Cherkessia– the problems of the formation of state national policy
in the Russian Federation in the North Caucasus are investigated. Ethnopolitical processes in the post-soviet period are analyzed, general and specific
factors that form interethnic tension in two-subject republics are revealed,
forms and methods of solving the socio-economic problems caused by them
are highlighted. Experience of interaction between government bodies
and civil society institutions on the harmonization of interethnic relations in
the region is summarized.
