The suggested encyclopedia acquaints readers with a complex of beliefs, which existed among the peasants in the XIX-XXth centuries. Its main characters are house-spirits, water-sprites, water-nymphs, wood-goblins, vampires, werewolves, devils and other evil spirits. These figures turned out to be strikingly stable in the public mind and still continue to be a part of a traditional culture. Folk and ethnographic sources, archive materials and literary publications cited by the author will definitely be of interest to the readers.
