The fourth volume of the Encyclopedia of the Imaginary examines the religious imagination of the Romanians. Modern anthropologists view religions as autonomous and self-sufficient systems capable of providing a functional and complete understanding of the world, which gives a special identity to communities. Analyzing religious beliefs in Romania, from the cults of antiquity to Christianity with all its forms and denominations, is not only a way to preserve cultural diversity, but also a form of social practice to teach mutual respect and acceptance of differences. The approach also makes it possible to assess not only the spiritual religious heritage, but also the material, consisting of settlements, icons, stained glass windows, frescoes, bibles, manuscripts or printed texts.
