The author investigates a phenomenon of democracy as a way of state power organization, its nature and mechanisms of implementation, the correlation of such notions as democracy and public activity, democracy and power, democracy and culture, power and self-goverment and others. The theoretical model is being supported by analysis of contemporary political development of Ukraine, the process of democratic institutions establishment and strenthening, and the role of executuive and legislative branches of power in these processes.
