Debuts of writers have always been the object of special interest of literary men and bibliophiles. A debut is commonly understood as a first publication in press or first book. The present work, by the example of Russian writers of the XIXth-XXth centuries, tries to present this biobibliographic characteristic in a broader context. A debut, apart from the traditional approach, is understood as a first publication and first book in all the main genres of an author. Besides, if an early (but not first) publication or book is of a high importance to its author, it is also worth while being referred to under the title of a “literary debut”.
