The textbook is dedicated to the music of the outstanding Russian composer of the 20th – 21st centuries, Sergei Mikhailovich Slonimsky (1932–2020), the creator of his own special artistic world, in which Russian poetry occupies an important place, becoming an inexhaustible source of his creativity. The book examines romances, songs and compositions of other genres (opera, oratorio), written on the verses of Russian classics of the XIX century (A. Pushkin, M. Lermontov, A. Koltsov, A. Tolstoy, F. Tyutchev), as well as Kozma Prutkov, the image created by the imagination of A. K. Tolstoy and the Zhemchuzhnikov brothers. The particular attention in the book is paid to Russian poetry of the Silver Age (V. Solovyov, A. Blok, O. Mandelstam, A. Akhmatova, M. Tsvetaeva), presented in the musical interpretation of Slonimsky.
