The book includes the history of Central Asia from the period of the Arabic caliphate (early 9th c. AD) up to the Mongolian invasion (early 13th c. AD). This work is one of the most important sources in the history of Muslim world in pre-Mongolian period and during the Mongolian invasion, which contains valuable data on the history of the Samanids, Ghaznavids, Qarakhanids, Saljuqs, Ghurids, Khwarizmshahs, and Khulaguids.
