The author makes an attempt to reveal the role of children and childhood in the traditional Khakass culture in the XIXth - early XXth centuries. On the basis of various written sources and research materials the author reconstructs the model of traditional upbringing in Khakass families. For the first time the reader is offered a description of family rites connected with children.
