Against the background of World War II in Yugoslavia, the Serbian nation was torn by the civil war between Tito partisans, chetniks of Mikhailovich and far-right supporters of Dimitrije Ljotic and M. Nedic. During the years of occupation the non-communist resistance movement, headed by Mikhailovich, gained more popularity then the others. They tried to combine the ideology of nationalism and the struggle against one-party dictatorship. The rebel of the underground organization and the Serbian chetniks were combined into the Yugoslav army in their homeland.
