I was born in a village. Rudevshchina, Grodno region. It has hardly survived. It hurts to look at something that used to please the eye and warmed the soul, but now disappears. that remains only in our memory, in the past, without which the future is impossible.
Catholic churches are inseparable from the history of the Belarusian people. Having visited different parts of our Motherland, I saw the greatness and grandeur of the temples, and their dilapidated state. He felt misunderstood and disappointed when the outlines of non-Catholic churches and other buildings hinted at the architecture of the church.
Regardless of what position a person occupied in society, he was rich or poor, a believer or an atheist, but when troubles came to a home or country, people turned to the temple for help and salvation. The history of the church is the history of people, their struggle and faith. Catholic churches, together with Belarusians and other peoples, have gone through centuries of prosperity and persecution. including Soviet power.
A building, even a temple, can be blown up, destroyed, looted. But Faith cannot be destroyed! She's strong. This will revive what has happened more than once in the history of my country.
While working on books about churches in Belarus, I wanted not so much to reveal the history of architectural monuments, but to make a seemingly immovable frame of our time.
Behind almost 6,000 kilometers, there are about 400 churches, 3 years of work - exciting and interesting, conversations with hundreds of people, imbued with faith, kindness and hope for a better life.
Let this book about the churches of the Grodno diocese, as well as publications about Catholic shrines of my whole Motherland, help us to penetrate deeper into the meaning of our life, the world around us and the place in this life.
