Dedicated to the little-known figure in Ukraine, Julian Kulakowski (1855–1919), professor of Roman literature at the Imperial University of St. Vladimir, the author of the first in our area of historical and analytical work "History of Byzantium" (1910-1915), the book tells about his life in Kiev and scientific work, mostly in the second decade of the twentieth century. Built on a biographical principle, Kulakovsky's documentary chronicle is designed to consolidate the humanistic contour of the creative personality in the causal-chaotic, mostly Kyiv features of the politically shimmering period of the late 1900s and 1910s in the mosaic flicker "background / character".
