A book that presents a figure that has so far been significantly overlooked when describing the history of Poland. Find out more about what Boleslaw Bierut represented. "Bierut. When the Party Was a God" is a book in which a man who ruled in post-war Poland was portrayed. The author, using the collected materials, showed how much of Bierut's life was a coincidence. At the time he was arrested, he was the secretary of the Communist Party of Poland. While ON was serving his sentence, many other people at the top of the CPP were executed. Meanwhile, when Bierut regained his freedom, only a memory remained of the party. Despite the fact that he was rather an undistinguished and inconspicuous individual, HE eventually became the leader and at the same time the president of Poland. Bierut appears here as a very politically engaged character, although not necessarily wishing bad for anyone, but simply uncritically believing in the party he professes.
