Nikolai Anatolyevich Pechen, a long-time friend and author of our newspaper, spent more than ten years on this unique and one-of-a-kind biographical dictionary. Almost 900 pages of text, about 2,600 photographs, 2,671 names, even more dates... Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, retired Colonel Nikolai Pechen did a significant part of the titanic work in his cozy parental home in the Dokshitsy village of Budilovka, where he and his wife Nelly Fedorovna often manage during the summer season, coming from Moscow. But he collected such extensive material, one might say, from all over the world. This is not his first book on military history, but others are difficult to even compare with the luxurious tome just published by the Zvyazda publishing house. It contains biographical information, as the author writes in the preface, “about Belarusians, natives of Belarusian lands, as well as about people with Belarusian roots, over a 300-year period.” All of them left a noticeable mark, first of all, in the military history of Russia and other countries.
