Translated by B. Zhumadildina, K. Saki. The monograph, based on the study of Arabic sources and extensive historiography, recreates the life and glorious work of an outstanding ruler, an unrivaled commander - the Mamluk Sultan of Egypt and Syria Baibars (1223-1277), a native of Desht-i Kipchak, our fellow countryman. The author presents the main character as an extraordinary person, a steppe dweller strong in body and spirit, who managed to rise from the position of a slave from the Polovtsian steppes to the ruler of a huge power of the Muslim East, an unrivaled statesman and military strategist on the scale of two continents - Eurasia and Africa. Readers will learn about the contribution of Sultan Baibars to the strengthening of Islam in the region, the flourishing of architecture, and will get acquainted with the military exploits of the great commander in repelling the Crusaders, the Ilkhans of Persia and the Seljuks of Asia Minor.
